Thomas Kuriakose, MD
Thomas Kuriakose, MD, is a physician based in New York, NY, focusing on pediatric critical care. He is completing his Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In 2022, he finished his pediatric residency through the Boston Combined Residency Program at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. His dedication to improving healthcare access and outcomes for underserved populations has guided his path in medicine. Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Economics from a college in Massachusetts. After graduation, he joined a teaching program in Mississippi, where he taught high school STEM subjects, including Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, Statistics, and SATP Biology. Over three years, his students consistently performed above state testing averages. He also served as an assistant coach for the school’s track and field and soccer teams, helping lead athletes to state-level achievements. These early experiences in education and coaching shaped his commitment to working with young people and contributed to his decision to enter medicine. Dr. Thomas Kuriakose earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction before attending medical school in New Jersey. There, he co-founded a mentorship program for adolescents with HIV and served on the leadership team of a student-run free clinic. He also helped implement a team training initiative to improve healthcare communication and safety. His community engagement was recognized with a distinction in service. As a pediatric resident, he was active in health equity education and residency curriculum development. Now in fellowship, his research focuses on improving conversations between providers and families in the pediatric ICU, particularly around acute respiratory failure. He also led the launch of Health Equity Rounds at his current institution. He has remained engaged in volunteer service, mentorship, and advocacy throughout his medical training.
