Just a block from the Beacon Hill light rail station, this brew pub makes up for its limited indoor seating with some great patio setups, including fire tables and cheerful service. The food offerings are primarily great sandwiches (try the blackened salmon) and lots of sides and shareables. Perihelion’s beers are on the funkier end; saison fans will enjoy themselves.

McMenamins is a name you’ll hear in the Pacific Northwest if you explore enough. Each of the family-owned pubs, hotels and music venues has its own distinct history, and several of the locations are in rehabilitated historic properties, including this one. You can read all about the building’s history while sipping a beverage and people watching out the large windows.

After you’ve spent the morning exploring downtown Seattle, pop into Pike Brewing Company for a classic pub fare lunch and a pint. The pub is adorned with plenty of Seattle and beer industry paraphernalia, keep an eye out for many neon signs. We recommend the Kilt Lifter, a quality Scotch ale, though the Mountain’s Out IPA is worth buying in a can for the great design alone.

The Molly Moon’s location in Capitol Hill can have a line at any time of day, even in the dead of winter. Their classic flavors are great, but it’s worth getting a few scoops to try one of the seasonal offerings at the same time. The local chain focuses on sustainability and community, sourcing 90% of their ingredients in the PNW and returning 10% of their profits to nonprofits.
This small, woman-owned ice-cream shop is one of several businesses worth visiting in the southernmost end of Seattle. The prices are truly reasonable, so you can splurge on several scoops and enjoy them at one of the nearby waterfront access points, like Chinook Beach Park or Be’er Sheva Park.
Hello Robin’s ‘best cookie in Seattle’ claim is a bold one – but it’s held up so far. The cookies are particularly enjoyable when sandwiched around a scoop of Molly Moon’s ice cream. The owners of the two shops are friends (and aren’t we all lucky for that?). Speaking of great partnerships, the Mackles’more is a s’more cookie with a chunk of Theo chocolate. Yum.

70 HELLO ROBIN

West Seattle’s garden store is a fun visit even if you aren’t working on a particular plant project at the moment. It’s just a block from a great vegan restaurant and a wine tasting room, so you can nourish yourself before or after you peruse the wide array of indoor and outdoor plants. Late spring is a particularly fun time to visit, when the rhododendrons for sale are in bloom.
